Endometrial tissue is shed every month through menstruation. Parts of endometrial tissue found in ectopic positions are called endometrial implants. These lesions are most normally found on the ovaries, the surface of the uterus, the fallopian tubes, the bowel, and on the membrane lining of the pelvic cavity. They are less frequently found to involve the vagina, bladder & cervix. Endometriosis can also occur outside the pelvis.
